Shireen Hammond Featured in the AIPP Journal

After winning the AIPP Family Photographer of the year in 2016, Shireen was fortunate enough to be featured in the AIPP journal. Shireen has been a member of the AIPP snice 2000, when she began as a student.

“I woke up on the morning of my 35th birthday and decided I wanted to study photography properly, to become a professional photographer.”

Her career really took off when she started entering the APPA and Epson State Awards.

The write-up, titled “Shireen Hammond: Loving Everything” explores her love for photography and journey to where she is today.

Shireen loves capturing special moments like this one!

While wedding photography is still a passion – she loves working with happy couples to bring their special day back to life through print – Shireen is moving further into portraiture. There a few reasons for this shift.

As explained here, after her father’s passing, Shireen realized she simply didn’t have a single family photo with everyone together. This drove her passion for capturing portraits and special moments between loved ones.

After being diagnosed with cancer in 2013, smack bang in the middle of an industry “shift” for wedding photographers, it was time for a fresh start. As Shireen recovered, she and her husband Robert decided that portrait photography was far less time consuming and had the potential to be more profitable – helping them recoup and cover expenses during such a difficult time.

As Shireen began to feel better, she decided she needed a special project to help her heal and inspire her to begin shooting with passion. That project became ‘Home is Where My Dog Is’ – a gorgeous coffee table book filled with photos of families and their furry friends. It even brought the community together and raised thousands of dollars for a local charity.

Everything has come together and feels comfortable and right”, says Shireen.

Shireen’s understanding of her clients passion for building connections is obvious. She prides herself on learning from each and every person who walks through her life, and passing those lessons on to her family and friends. And she definitely isn’t afraid to have a laugh along the way!

“I shoot what makes me happy and what fills my heart, whatever that may be.”
